Inverell Shire Council has adopted three updated policies that provide a clearer and more comprehensive framework for debt recovery, financial hardship assistance and pensioner rebate concessions.
The policies were endorsed for public exhibition at Council’s April Ordinary Meeting as part of Council’s ongoing programmed review of its policy suite to ensure policies remain relevant, up to date and fit for purpose.
The exhibition period opened on 28 April 2026 and closed on 25 May 2026, with no submissions received from the public.
At its Ordinary Meeting on 17 June 2026, Council adopted the Debt Recovery Policy, Financial Hardship Policy and Pensioner Rebate Concession Policy for implementation.
The updated policy framework strengthens Council’s approach by consolidating and modernising important guidance around debt management, support for residents experiencing financial hardship and access to pensioner concessions.
The adoption of the policies reflects Council’s commitment to responsible revenue management while also recognising the need to support vulnerable members of the community.
Mayor Kate Dight said, “These updated policies provide a more transparent and contemporary framework for Council and the community. They will help ensure Council manages outstanding debts fairly and consistently, while also providing clear pathways for pensioners and people experiencing financial hardship to access available support.”
