The Uralla Tigers will host this year’s Group 19 Grand finals after defeating Inverell Hawks 26-18 at Varley Oval in yesterday’s major semi final.
Nothing could separate the teams in the first half before the Hawks scored just before half time to go into the break 6-0 up but the Uralla Tigers came out breathing fire to get out to a 16-6 lead during the second half before holding off a late surge from the Hawks to claim victory.
Uralla Tigers Coach Greg Ryan was pleased with his team’s performance right across the park adding they’ll soak up the win but notes it means nothing hosting the grand final if they can’t back up yesterday’s performance.
A disappointed Inverell Hawks Coach Jamie McCormack says Uralla were just too good on the day and will need to bounce back against the Glen innes magpies this Sunday in the preliminary Final.
The Hawks had better fortunes in Reserve grade, defeating Uralla 28-16 while Glen Innes came from behind to defeat the Hawkettes 16-10.
Meantime Saturday’s minor semi-final saw the Glen Innes Magpies eliminate the Tingha Tigers from the finals race with a 14-10 victory with Magpies coach Nick Ehsman saying it was a tough win considering they weren’t able to play their game due to the wet conditions.
Barraba recorded a 20-0 win over Tingha in Reserve grade while in Ladies league Tag, Uralla were too strong for Barraba winning 18-8
