Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan remains frustrated and disappointed about the NSW Minns Government’s rejection of the Opposition’s Crime Bill last week.
Speaking on STA FM yesterday, Mr Moylan says neither the government, the Greens and certain Independents, who voted to oppose the Bill, have given him an explanation or reasons why they decided to reject the Bill.
The bill included expanding the definition of repeat offences beyond serious break and enter and motor vehicle theft, to include all serious indictable offences like murder or sexual assault, introducing electronic monitoring and a mandatory curfew as conditions of bail, revoking bail if there is a breach of the bail conditions, if another charge is laid while on bail, or if there is any interference with the electronic monitoring device, and elevating the voice of victims in the court through the use of victim impact statements.
Mr Moylan says what rural and regional towns are experiencing over the past 18 to 24 months is an increase in serious crimes committed by children and called for the government to protect its citizens.
