A Glen Innes woman remains behind bars after fronting Armidale Local court this week, appealing charges of shoplifting and hindering police while on duty.
The Northern Daily Leader reports 27-year-old Kayla Antaw allegedly left a supermarket in Glen Innes with goods valued at almost $1300 without paying for them on January 14th.
Antaw is believed to have asked a member of the public for a lift back to her home and shortly after refused to speak to police who attended the address.
It’s also alleged that Antaw chewed her identification card rather than show it to police when requested to provide identification after she has told them her name was Tayla Anderson, but a subsequent check failed to find anyone under that name.
She was arrested and charged after officers removed the identification card from Antaw’s mouth
Magistrate Mark Richardson refused her bail application saying she posed a clear risk to the community and remains in prison with the case to return to court on March 31st.
