Man, OC Sprayed and Tasered in Inverell

A man has been charged after allegedly punching a police officer in Inverell last week.

Officers attached to New England Police District were called to Brae Street, about 7.30pm Friday 21 August 2026, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Police arrived and found a man standing on the roadway. Officers will allege the man threatened police and attempted to fight attending officers.

The man allegedly punched an officer in the face, causing a laceration.

Police used OC spray and a Taser to effect the arrest of the 49-year-old man, who was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Inverell Police Station.

He was charged with five offences,

  • Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm
  • Behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school
  • Use offensive language in/near public place/school
  • Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
  • Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 5 on Saturday (22 August 2026), where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear at Inverell Local Court this Thursday (27 August 2026).
