Moylan Welcomes Continued Support for Family Care Centres

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has welcomed the confirmation of ongoing Government support for vital maternity care, family care centres and vaccination programs in regional and rural NSW.

Women and their babies will benefit with $26.8 million of an $83 million maternity package dedicated to maintaining seven Tresillian regional care centres (including Armidale), five Tresillian 2U vans (including Inverell) and the Macksville residential unit.

Mr Moylan has been pushing for continued investment in maternity care since joining NSW Parliament in 2024 and is pleased the NSW Government has committed to continuing to fund family care centres across the state.

“Around 90,000 women across NSW give birth each year and those in country areas deserve to have the same access to high-quality care as their city counterparts,” Mr Moylan said.

“It is a cause I took up when I came in because it is something close to my heart knowing what it is like to be sleep-deprived parent in a regional area.

“Tresillian offers a range of services, guidance, and support to families when they need it most.

“Their Family Care Centre in Armidale and mobile van in Inverell have been providing help to members of the Northern Tablelands community since 2022.

“Having these services available locally saves families in the bush having to travel to metropolitan areas for the same level of care.

“I have been requesting that the NSW Government continue their support of this vital service since being elected as the Member for Northern Tablelands in 2024 and it is pleasing to hear they have recognised how important it is to our communities.”

Tresillian chief executive officer Robert Mills welcomed the NSW Government’s continued investment in regional services.

“Tresillian is committed to providing more services for families in rural and regional areas, close to home in their local communities,” Mr Mills said.

“This accessible service model is focused on achieving optimal child health and wellbeing outcomes while building parents’ confidence,” he said.

In addition to investing in family care services, the $83 million maternity care package will see 53 full-time equivalent midwife positions created in regional NSW, free vaccinations for pregnant women and funding for virtual paediatrician support to general practitioners across NSW.
