A Glen Innes man has been sentenced to an 18-month jail term after assaulting his mother during a dispute over money.
The Northern daily Leader reports the man, aged in his 40s and who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to charges of demanding property with menace, common assault, possession of drugs and a separate break and enter charge.
The man’s mother was pushed to the ground by her son following an argument about money and kicked several times in the stomach and hip, while her son yelled ‘give me my money’.
The man was also found guilty of a break-in at a Glen Innes shop that he did not challenge.
Judge Lucas Swan sentenced the man to an aggregate prison term of 18 months with a one-year non-parole period and will be eligible for release to parole on October 14, next year.
He was also convicted of drug possession charges without further penalty.
