Bracing for More Wet Weather

by | Oct 21, 2026 | Weather

An unusually slow-moving high-pressure system centred over the Tasman Sea is set to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to Australia’s east.

The large high-pressure system will linger above the Tasman Sea this week and remain near-stationary from now until the weekend bringing onshore winds over eastern Australia, which often enhances rain and thunderstorm activity over parts of Queensland and NSW.

Weatherzone meteorologist Ben Domesino says there are signs that a two-day period of heavy rain could develop over southeast Queensland and northeast NSW tomorrow and Friday as an upper-level trough crosses the region.

He says some computer models predict that parts of southeast Queensland and northeast NSW could see 100 – 200 mm of rain this week which would be equivalent to roughly two months of October rainfall in some areas.

Rain is set to continue this week into next for Inverell with big falls expected over the weekend at this stage.
