Police remain frustrated at the significant number of people still choosing to break the rules on the road risking everyone’s safety.
During Operation Easter 2025 in the Peel Sector which includes the New England and Oxley Police districts, 200 speeding infringements were issued, 21 positive road drug tests, nine drink driving and seven seatbelt offences were detected
In one case, police stopped a Toyota sedan on the New England Highway at Uralla on Good Friday for random breath testing with the unaccompanied learner driver – a 31-year-old man – allegedly failing to provide a licence and returned a breath analysis of 0.077.
He was charged with low range drink driving, learner not accompanied by driver, unlicensed driving and learner driver not display “L” plates as prescribed with the man to appear before Armidale Local Court on Monday 2 June.
Peel Sector Highway Patrol manager Kelly Wixx says it’s still school holidays and there are a significant number of vehicles still travelling on regional roads and reminded motorists that double demerits will be in place from this Thursday to Sunday for the Anzac Day long weekend with police focusing on reducing road trauma with stationary and mobile testing while Highway Patrol Police will focus on dangerous driving offences.
