YOUNG people will have the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised first aid qualification for free, with a one-day course to be delivered in Inverell this month.
The full-day first aid course will be held on Saturday 19 September, from 9am to 4pm at ICYOUth Centre in Inverell, located beside the Inverell Taxi Rank.
The course is open to young people aged 15 to 24 years and is completely free for participants, with lunch also provided.
The course is being funded by the NSW Government and is hosted by Ladybug Projects and the Youth Think Tank Team – a committee of local youth aged 13-17.
As part of their ongoing work to deliver youth initiatives, the Y3T engaged with local young people to identify issues, opportunities and projects that matter.
Feedback gathered through this process identified a dedicated first aid course for young people as something that would be valuable.
Ladybug Projects has been working alongside the Y3T to turn their ideas into reality.
“This course is a great example of what can happen when young people are given a genuine opportunity to have their voices heard and help shape programs designed for them,” said Project Manager Christy Galbraith.
“First aid is a practical skill that young people can use at home, at work, in their communities and in everyday life. The fact that participants will also walk away with a nationally recognised qualification makes this a fantastic opportunity.”
The course provides young people with the chance to develop valuable skills and confidence that can strengthen their employment and volunteering opportunities.
