Climate Change Authority Chair and former NSW Liberal Treasurer Matt Kean has hit back at New England MP Barnaby Joyce saying the energy crisis Australians are facing is current and not 20 yrs down the track.
At a Bush Summit held in Orange this week, both Mr Joyce and Mr Kean were locked in a verbal tussle, with Mr Joyce voicing his frustration at the roll out of renewable energy, saying it is the most divisive thing that has happened in his time in politics.
Mr Joyce called for nuclear prohibitions to be removed to let the market decide if they are too expensive or not, in reference to a CSIRO report that found nuclear energy in Australia would be significantly more expensive than renewables, with Mr Joyce arguing that renewables only provide part time power to fulfill a full time economy.
However, Mr Kean says that while he was not opposed to a nuclear plan per se, people needed help with their power bills now with renewables being the solution.
