Fibre Internet Upgrades for Glen Innes

by | Oct 16, 2026 | Media Release

Over 3,000 homes and businesses in Glen Innes are now eligible to upgrade from a legacy copper-based nbn technology to nbn Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), with more than 550 already making the upgrade.

As more people work remotely, run businesses from home, connect smart devices and access services online, reliable connectivity is becoming an increasingly important part of everyday life.

Fibre is nbn’s fastest residential technology, supporting access to wholesale download speeds of up to 2,000 Mbps through participating providers, enabling smoother, higher-resolution video calls, enhanced streaming, faster downloads and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously.

Recent changes also mean that over 1,650 homes and business in the Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) footprint in Glen Innes do not require a high-speed plan to order a full fibre upgrade. nbn is prioritising the FTTC network for accelerated transition from copper as it has higher fault rates than nbn’s other copper-based networks.

FTTC technology uses a combination of fibre and legacy copper cabling. A full fibre upgrade replaces the remaining copper connection with fibre optic cable all the way to the premises, providing access to a more reliable, resilient and future-ready connection capable of supporting faster speeds and growing digital demands.

Outside of the nbn fixed line network, more homes and businesses in the Glen Innes Region can access higher nbn network speeds on their nbn fixed wireless connection with completion of nationwide upgrades enabling the introduction of the fastest wholesale speeds ever offered on the nbn Fixed Wireless network.

The nbn team will be at Glen Innes Newsagency and Gifts from 9am to 2pm on Tuesday 20 October, Wednesday 21 October and Thursday 22 October, helping local residents and businesses understand the upgrade process. The team will be available to help you check your eligibility, explain how the upgrades work and guide you through the simple steps to access the benefits of faster, more reliable broadband.

Residents and businesses in Glen Innes and the surrounding area can check their eligibility to upgrade at www.nbn.com.au/checkregional .

Head of Regional Engagement NSW, Tom O’Dea, said growing numbers of Australians are upgrading to full fibre as their connectivity needs continued to evolve.

“Fibre is not only our fastest technology, but also our most reliable and future-ready one. As the region continues to grow, fibre upgrades are helping replace legacy copper infrastructure and provide access to a more reliable and resilient nbn network.

“Whether it’s running a business, working remotely, studying online or staying connected with family and friends, reliable broadband has become an essential part of everyday life.”

Margot Davis, Mayor Glen Innes Severn Council, said it was great to hear how many households and businesses in Glen Innes could now upgrade to full fibre and how many people have already upgraded.

“Improved connectivity in Glen Innes will make it easier for people to work, study, run businesses, access healthcare and stay connected with family, services and opportunities.

“In regional communities, reliable digital connectivity is essential infrastructure that underpins socio-economic wellbeing, education, workforce participation, business growth, community resilience and access to opportunity in the modern economy.”
