Today, is National Survivor’s Day, it commemorates the resilience of survivors of sexual assault, institutional and systemic abuse.
An important initiative from In Good Faith Foundation (IGFF) who supports survivors of sexual assault and institutional abuse through advocacy, education and survivor-centred programs.
National Survivors’ Day provides a platform for countless courageous survivors, their supporters and whistle-blowers across the country.
It allows them to connect with others who have experienced similar trauma and access support services. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault and institutional abuse and to advocate for justice and equality.
In Good Faith Foundation CEO, Clare Leaney said National Survivors’ Day is a critical moment to acknowledge the courage and strength of survivors.
“It’s a day to honour their resilience and to remind them that they are not alone. We are committed to providing support, resources, and advocacy for survivors, and we encourage everyone to join us in commemorating this important day.”
Australians can get behind the cause for the entire week by Wearing a Ribbon, Taking the Pledge of recognition on social media and using the hashtags #NationalSurvivorsDay and #EveryVoice and making a Donation at nationalsurvivorsday.org.au.
Cindy McDougall, a survivor of sexual abuse and an ambassador for National Survivors’ Day said, National Survivors’ Day is about recognising the personal journeys of individuals who have faced tremendous hardships and challenges, but it’s also a day to celebrate their courage and their fight for justice.
“As a mother of 7, domestic violence survivor and a fierce advocate for those who are voiceless in having their stories heard, I’m honoured to take on this role and be a one of those voices in support of those who have endured so much.”
Alison, another National Survivors’ Day ambassador and survivor of grooming and sexual assault in gymnastics said, National Survivors’ Day is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of survivors.
“It’s a day to celebrate our courage and to honour the journeys we have taken.
I am honoured to be an ambassador for this important event and to use my voice to support other survivors.”
