This Legacy Week, it’s our turn to give back. Inverell Legacy is calling on the local community to step up this Legacy Week (30 August – 5 September) to support veterans’ families.
The annual appeal has been a cornerstone of the iconic charity’s fundraising efforts since the 1940s, with thousands of volunteers selling badges and bears to raise funds.
This Legacy Week carries even greater significance, following the most significant change in Legacy’s 100-year history – an expansion of eligibility that has opened the door to thousands more families.
With more families now eligible for support, Legacy expects demand for its services to grow, making this Legacy Week one of the most important yet.
General Manager, Lyn Kitawal is urging the community to get involved in whichever way they can.
How you can help this Legacy Week:
• Volunteer: Join the thousands of volunteers across the nation who dedicate their time to sell badges and organise events. In Inverell we are looking for volunteers on Thursday & Friday from 12pm-5pm.
• Donate: Even the smallest gifts make a big difference. Donations can be made at any of our stalls, shop or office or by purchasing a Legacy badge or bear from a volunteer.
• Organise an event: Rally your friends, colleagues and local community to organise fundraising events in support of Legacy. Whether it’s a morning tea, sports event or community gathering, your efforts will go a long way toward helping our veterans’ families thrive.
• Spread the word: Use social media and community networks to raise awareness about Legacy Week and its importance. Use hashtags #LegacyWeek2026 #BadgeWeek
Funds raised during Legacy Week will provide local veterans’ families with personalised care through advocacy, financial aid, education and development, and emotional support.
Inverell Legacy currently cares for 100 family members of veterans, including 22 children & 1 Uni student. Services provided include social outings, education support, home visits, personal alarms, accommodation & financial assistance.
Legacy merchandise, including badges, pens & bears will be available during Legacy Week from the following locations;
- Inverell –
o Wednesday to Saturday stalls will be located at:
▪ Big W,
▪ Woolworths,
▪ the Post Office,
▪ the back of Prices Plus,
▪ RDR Real Estate.
o Wednesday to Saturday, students will be walking around each morning selling merchandise.
o All week at Inverell Public School, the Legacy Office & the Legacy Centre. - Bingara – Thursday & Friday, stalls outside Meat on Maitland & IGA.
- Texas – there will be a stall outside Hong Yuen’s on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
- Warialda – all week at the Golf & Bowling Club.
- Delungra – Friday night from 6pm, there will be a Legatee at the Delungra Hotel.
- Bundarra – at the School Office, plus the students will also be out selling merchandise around the town & outside the shop.
- Gum Flat – all week at the school.
- Yetman – all week at the shop. Stalls in Inverell, Bundarra, Delungra & Texas will have eftpos.
