New England Zone Rural Fire Service have confirmed the fire burning near Guyra, is now under control and officially on patrol status.
The fire, at Kookabookra, 42km northeast of Guyra, grew to just over 300 hectares and was brought under control by local landholders, RFS volunteers, aviation crew and heavy machinery operators.
The Service sent out a special shout-out to local landholders who went above and beyond to help their neighbours, bringing their own firefighting units to join the fight.
With further dry lightning storms expected this season, the RFS encourage all landowners to keep a lookout over their properties as lightning strikes can ignite trees in remote terrain, sometimes smouldering for days before flaring up.
