The man responsible for an aggravated break-in and high-speed chase from Warialda to Gravesend will remain behind bars until the new year after his bid for bail failed.
The Northern Daily Leader reports Magistrate Miranda Moody rejected 35-year-old Keith Turner’s new release application in a Sydney bail court this week.
Turner, who was on bail for two domestic violence-related assault matters, was allegedly involved in a police pursuit in a Holden Commodore, reaching speeds of between 140-170 km on the Gwydir Hwy on Saturday afternoon with claims the car was travelling on the wrong side of the road during the pursuit before ending at Gravesend
On Sunday, police allege a man was seen walking from a shed on nearby Glen Wood Rd in Gravesend armed with a double-barrel shotgun and threatened a resident aged in his 60s who owned the property before walking into bushland where a round was heard being discharged shortly after.
A large-scale police operation ensued with Western Region specialist units attending with Turner being arrested on Sunday afternoon and charged with firearm, break and enter and driving offences.
Turner’s case will be back before Inverell Local court today and tomorrow while other matters will be heard at Moree Local Court in January.
