Vacant Inverell Shire Council Position to be Decided in April

by | Mar 25, 2025 | Local Government | 0 comments

Inverell Shire Council will use the countback election to fill one casual vacancy on the Council after it voted to use this method to fill any vacancies at their first meeting.

The casual vacancy occurred following the resignation of former Mayor, Paul Harmon in February.

An application may only be made by a candidate at the last ordinary election for the council area or ward, in this case either Kelvin Brown or Graem Murray, who were not elected last September.

Either candidate must declare they’re still eligible to be elected as a councillor and must lodge their application before 12 noon Thursday, 3 April with the countback election scheduled for 10am on Tuesday, 8 April.

Voters are advised there is no requirement to vote on the day as the preference data from ballot papers from the previous local government ordinary election will be used.
