A cyclist and motorist have died as well as a number of people have been injured following a crash in Armidale over the weekend.
About 3.30pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Long Swamp Road, Armidale, following reports a car and several cyclists had collided, before the car continued and hit a tree.
One of the cyclists, a man in his 60’s, died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified, while three other cyclists have been injured and were treated at the scene before being taken to both Armidale and John Hunter Hospitals in a stable condition.
The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 30s, was trapped and released shortly after following the arrival of emergency services and was also treated at the scene before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition; she died yesterday in hospital.
Officers from New England Police District have established a crime scene, which will be examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit, with a report to be prepared for the information of the coroner.
