Essential Energy customers across Inverell were affected by an unplanned power outage just after 4pm today, Tuesday 15 April, following a truck coming in contact with a powerline on Henderson Street, damaging the electrical infrastructure and causing the lowering of the associated powerline.
To keep the community and road users safe, network equipment operated automatically, isolating the power to approximately 400 homes and businesses until Essential Energy crews arrived at the site.
Crews were dispatched immediately, commencing repairs and restoring power to all customers by 4.50pm.
Essential Energy reminds everyone that the safest option if their vehicle is near a lowered or fallen powerline is to stay inside the vehicle and call 000 unless the situation inside the vehicle is life threatening. Anyone who sees a fallen or damaged powerline is advised to stay at least eight metres away from the site and to call Essential Energy immediately on 13 20 80.
