Smoke Alarm Warning

by | Jul 2, 2024 | Lifestyle | 0 comments

With the temperature in many parts of the state dipping into single digits, NSW Rural Fire Service are reminding the community of the importance of working fire alarms

The Service warns with the cold weather with us, they see an increase in house fires with nearly half of the homes impacted by fires last year not having a working smoke alarm.

Fire and Rescue NSW report there’s approximately 4500 residential house fires each year with half of these fires starting in the kitchen, electrical appliances and faults cause 40% of home fires while using heaters, cigarettes and candles are the most common causes of fire.

NSW Rural Fire Service encourage everyone to be safe this winter and to check that they have a working smoke alarm, create a home escape plan and always keep items a metre from the heater.
