Local cricket administrator Simon Smith is one of 43 recipients from across the state to receive an inaugural Cricket NSW Community Distinguished Service Award
Cricket NSW introduced the Community Distinguished Service Award, to honour volunteers who have made significant contributions to grassroots cricket for more than 25 years.
Mr Smith was nominated by the Square & Compass Cricket Club along with members of the Junior Cricket Association and former local cricket historian and author Lee Eastaway for the award.
From cricketing roles at University, Tamworth and Inverell, Mr Smith says his cricketing life began 50 years ago with his sons also playing cricket for Square & Compass.
Mr Smith says he was humbled and honoured to receive the award adding he loves still contributing to local cricket.
