Tristan Saunders from Team Brennan has backed up his win in the Melbourne to Warrnambool Classic to conquer the Squadron Energy’s Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic on Saturday in a race record time of 5 hours 38 minutes and 51 secs.
In a tactical move late in the race, Saunders and teammate Brendan Davids of South Africa worked together to overpower 2023 race winner Zach Marriage from Butterfields Ziptrak Racing who toiled hard to finish in 2nd place.
Saunders paid tribute to teammate Davids for setting up the win.
Meantime, a breakaway group of 5 riders sprinted to the finishing line with Gina Ricardo from Praties Racing claiming the 110km Inverell Cycling Classic from Mt Mitchell to Inverell.
Riccardo picked her time to sprint to the line down the home straight to claim victory from Rachel Wales and Rylee Akeroyd.
