The Inverell Saints have snuck home in a thriller against the Tamworth Swans by 2 points in the annual Kevin Pay Memorial Day at Varley Oval on Saturday in Round 6 of the AFL Northwest competition.

The Saints led for most of the day before the Swans surged to hit the front late in the game before Angus Croft nailed his 5th goal for the afternoon to give the Saints an 11.5.71 to 11.3.69 victory to retain the Kevin Pay Memorial Shield.

The win leapfrogs the Saints in top spot on the ladder.

Meantime the Saints women proved too good against the Tamworth Swans with Kate McCosker, Mackenzie Berkley, Sarah Drew and Piper Atkins played outstanding football in the 13.14.94 to 1.1.7 victory.

A test for the women will come up this weekend when they meet their arch nemesis the Poochettes at Gunnedah.

The Poochettes had a big win over the Tamworth Kangaroos 8.10.58 to 0.1.1 while in the men’s game, Kangaroos were too good for Gunnedah Bulldogs 17.1.113 to 7.11.53
