Rural Operation Targets Rural Crime

Two people have been charged following a three-day police operation in the New England region last week.

The high-visibility operation to proactively target crimes in rural and regional areas, was run between 6pm on Monday 13 January 2025 and 4am Thursday 16 January 2025, by officers attached to New England Police District.

Police saturated several areas in the region during the operation, including Bingara, Inverell, Moree, Warialda, Delungra, Gravesend, Upper Horton, Terry Hie Hie and Pallamallawa.

During the patrols as part of the rural crime operation, police also:

• Issued two Future Service Court Attendance Notices for possess prohibited drugs;

• Issued two Court Attendance Notices for middle-range PCA offences;

• Conducted two safe storage inspections; and

• Conducted two Domestic Violence Liaison Officer compliance and bail checks.

Police also conducted more than 50 RBTs along with speed enforcements, vehicle stops, person searches and interacted with rural property owners.

About 9.40pm on Tuesday 14 January 2025, police stopped a ute on Stephen Street, Warialda, for the purposes of random testing. The driver – a 18-year-old man – was subjected to a breath test that returned an alleged positive reading. He was arrested and taken to Warialda for the purposes of a breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.082. The man was charged with drive with middle-range PCA. The 18-year-old man is due in Inverell Local Court on Thursday 27 February 2025

About 6.45pm on Wednesday 15 January 2025, police arrested a 45-year-old woman on Halls Creek Avenue, Bingara, by virtue of an outstanding warrant. She was charged for a number of DV and property-related offences, refused bail and appeared in Inverell Local Court on Thursday 16 January 2025.

Further similar operations are planned for the New England Police District, to be rolled out in the future.
