The Kings Birthday statewide traffic operation has commenced and will conclude at midnight Monday morning with double demerits in place for all speeding, seatbelt and mobile phone offences.
Police will be targeting these offences as well as drivers using alcohol and drugs as well as fatigue related offences.
Peel Sector Highway Patrol Manager Kelly Wixx says currently 157 people have lost their lives in road crashes this year and 6 people have died in the Oxley and New England Police Districts adding alcohol and drug use and speed are still the most prevalent factors for our regions crashes
Inspector Wixx also reminded motorists that the road pavement in areas is degraded and may cause damage to tyres and vehicle and urged them to take regular rest breaks and ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts.
Police especially Highway Patrol Officers will be conducting stationary and mobile testing and will be patrolling all major roads and rural roads to ensure all road users are being safe.
