New England MP Barnaby Joyce has weighed in surrounding news of $8.7 million of funding withdrawn from Glen Innes Severn Council for the New England Rail Trail by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
According to Mr Joyce, no reason was given as to the withdrawal of funding from not only Glen Innes Severn Council’s Rail Trail project, but also $5.41 million from Armidale Regional Council.
Glen Innes Severn Mayor Margot Davis contacted Mr Joyce and expressed profound disappointment, stating, this project was the single most significant economic opportunity the community has ever seen, with Mr Joyce showing frustration at Labor’s continued disregard for regional Australia.
