The Federal government has slammed the National Party claiming it had got into bed with the Liberal Party and the Greens political party to block reforms to international education which they believe will hurt the regional communities they claim to represent.
The proposed legislation enables the Government of the day to set a limit on the number of international student commencements each year.
Minister for Education Jason Clare says by blocking the legislation that sets a cap on international students and improves integrity in the international education sector, they’re standing in the way of regional universities, like the University of New England, getting more international students.
Minister Clare says the National Party are supposed to fight for the regions, not cave into the big cities adding by getting into bed with the Greens, the National Party are betraying their local communities.
He says the government caps will increase the number of international students at regional universities and reduce them in the big cities suggesting that’s what the Nationals say they want, going on to say If they actually want it, vote for it.
