A crowd of around 400 consisting of locals and visitors attended to pay their respects and observe the day at Sunday’s Myall Creek Massacre Memorial.
Attendees gathered to commemorate what occurred, on the afternoon of 10 June 1838, with descendants of both the victims and the perpetrators,
Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan joined Minister for Aboriginal Affairs David Harris as well as Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight and Gwydir Shire Mayor Tiffany Galvin to attend this year’s commemoration.
Ann Daly from the Friends of Myall Creek Committee says the highlights of the weekend was guest speaker Emeritus Professor Judy Atkinson OAM who spoke about intergenerational trauma and Friday’s symposium in Armidale where speaker Tony McIvoy discussed the ripple effects from the Myall Creek massacre.
