Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan remains frustrated at the legal system after several offenders received bail from Sydney courts recently and are now back roaming local streets.
Speaking on STA FM, Mr Moylan says there was a spike in incidents over the festive season across the electorate with police arresting several offenders only to have the Parramatta bails court to let them free on bail.
Mr Moylan questioned several of those bail decisions adding, in his opinion, they didn’t comply with the amendments to the bail laws which were brought in June last year.
He says the matters were handled by Parramatta Bails Court because the local court judges, which serves the Inverell and Moree court circuit, were on break over for the festive season.
The Local MP says the Northern Tablelands community deserves better in dealing with crime and called on the government to do more in addressing repeat offenders.
