Inverell Shire Council has accepted recommendations from the Local Traffic Committee (LTC) following its meeting on 7 April 2025.
The proposed measures aim to improve road safety and traffic management in key areas, particularly around Inverell Public School and Inverell High School.
The LTC has unanimously endorsed a plan for indent parking in Henderson Street adjacent to Inverell Public School.
This measure seeks to alleviate congestion and improve student safety by increasing available parking spaces.
Additionally, a formalised ‘School Drop Off and Pick Up Zone’ with improved signage is proposed as an immediate short-term solution while grant funding for the larger project is pursued.
At Inverell High School, concerns have been raised about motorists failing to stop at the Brae Street pedestrian crossing, posing risks to students. ”
The LTC has recommended the installation of ‘Children Crossing’ flags’, which will be raised each morning and removed in the afternoon by school staff.
This initiative aims to enhance driver awareness and improve safety at the busy crossing.
Council resolved to endorse the recommendations of the LTC. These initiatives will contribute to safer and more efficient traffic management around local schools.
Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight says more parking will be available to parents at drop off and pick-up times.
