Labor’s New England candidate for the upcoming federal election Laura Hughes says she will reinstate the Inverell Aquatic Centre funding back to Inverell Shire Council, if elected as the new member.
$10 million had been allocated to the project by the former coalition government but was revoked by the current Albanese government when it discontinued the Building Better Regions Program and replaced it with the Growing Regions Fund in 2022, forcing Inverell Shire Council to dip into their funds to ensure the projects future.
Speaking on STA FM, Ms Hughes says if she was able to achieve a win in the New England electorate, she would knock on many doors including NSW Senator Tim Ayers who Ms Hughes believes has power and sway.
Asked whether she would reinstate the Inverell aquatic centre funding, if elected, Ms Hughes was adamant she would.
