New England MP Barnaby Joyce says he’s working behind the scenes to reinstate federal government funding for the Inverell Aquatic Centre redevelopment.
$10 million had been allocated to the project by the former coalition government before the current Albanese government discontinued the Building Better Regions Program and replaced it with the Growing Regions Fund in 2022, forcing Inverell Shire Council to dip into their funds to ensure the projects future.
Mr Joyce says he’s currently in talks with the Expenditure Review committee, trying to get them to approve the funds, which in turn, would compensate Inverell Shire Council.
Speaking on STA FM on Wednesday morning, Mr Joyce confirmed he has held discussions this week and is fighting for the money to be reinstated.
