The Nationals Barnaby Joyce has been emphatically returned as the member for New England following Saturday’s federal election.
Mr Joyce claimed 52.43% of the New England vote from Labors Laura Hughes with 20%, One Nation’s Brent Larkham with 10.28%, followed by the Greens Wendy Wales, Independent Natasha Ledger, Holly Masters from Family First and Patriot of Trumpets candidate Todd Juchau.
On a two-party preferred basis, Mr Joyce claimed 67.3% of the vote from Ms Hughes on 32.7, giving him a 2% swing.
The former Deputy Prime Minister says he’s humbled by the vote adding he ran a campaign based on the needs of the New England.
Meantime, Mr Joyce revealed he has prostate cancer and will take a month off to recover from surgery.
He says medical staff believe they got it in time adding if it was much serious, he would’ve retired immediately.
