NSW Transport Minister Jenny Aitchson joined Inverell Shire Council representatives and NSW police to officially open the new Children’s Bicycle Safety Park in the youth precinct on Old Bundarra Rd on Tuesday afternoon
Council was successful in securing $65K from Transport for NSW to design and construct a bicycle safety course and contributed a further $50K to complete an upgrade of drainage in the area
Around 40 kids turned up to try out the 2.5m wide concrete path circuit which is complete with a roundabout, line marking and road signage in order to introduce younger riders to the road rules and bicycle safety for when they begin to ride on the road.
Minister Aitchison says they want kids to get off their devices and out into the environment adding she’s proud the NSW Government has been able to assist with this project, which is really important for teaching road safety to children.
Inverell Shire Council Mayor Paul Harmon says this new facility will ensure younger citizens can develop their skills and build up their road safety awareness in a safe and fun environment while also spending time outdoors with families.
