Hunter New England Health Apologises for Email

by | Feb 11, 2025 | Health | 0 comments

Hunter New England Local Health District has apologised for an email which was circulated amongst clinicians around Australia, labelling junior doctors as clinical marshmallows.

The Guardian Australia reports the union representing doctors, the Australian Salaried Medical Officers’ Federation, said the email was sent in response to junior doctors questioning a decision to roster them on for 10 night shifts in a row.

In an email which was accidentally sent recently by the Health District to junior doctors questioned their commitment to the job stating ‘we are going to have a workforce of clinical marshmallows’.

A spokesperson for Hunter New England Local Health District says a personal apology has been made to their Junior Medical Officers for the hurt and frustration caused by a recent email, emphasising the comments do not reflect the sentiment of the district.

The Health District state they will continue to work and listen to their valued Junior Medical Officers as they advise them on what is important to them, and to ensure they have access to the right levels of support and professional development.
