New England Labor candidate Laura Hughes has condemned sitting member Barnaby Joyce and the National party for voting against a move to make Labor’s free TAFE initiative permanent.
Ms Hughes says fee-free TAFE was giving people in the New England an opportunity to upskill and secure better jobs without the burden of tuition fees but believes the Coalition would cut it as soon as they had the chance.
She says Mr Joyce and the Nationals have made it clear they don’t think TAFE students deserve cost-of-living relief while they gain valuable skills.
Speaking on STA FM last week, Mr Joyce says Labor is not focussed on the key issues in the New England.
