Gwydir Shire Water Restrictions

by | Feb 12, 2025 | Community, Local Government, Media Release | 0 comments

Water restrictions continue at Warialda with Gwydir Shire Council updating residents about a trial which began yesterday.

Fixed sprinklers may now be used by even street number houses from 8pm to 10pm Monday and Wednesday; while odd street number houses may use their sprinklers from 8pm to 10pm Thursday and Saturday.

This trial will be reviewed weekly.

Use of handheld hoses is permitted by residents in Warialda at any time of the day, however the most effective use is before 10am and after 8pm.

Meantime, the last PFAS test conducted across Warialda on 8 January indicated that the town water supply is safe to drink under the water quality guidelines.

Over at Gravesend, the use of sprinklers or fixed handheld hoses are prohibited between 8am and 8pm with Council stating that the town’s water supply is struggling to keep up with demands and reservoirs levels are falling to a critical level where action needs to be taken.

Residents are requested to restrict their use of water to the nighttime hours to ensure the most effective use of the water.

Estimated Duration of Restrictions: Until end of February 2025 – reviewed weekly.
