Gwydir Shire Mayor Tiffany Galvin has requested a meeting with federal communications minister Michell Rowland to discuss the lack of mobile coverage in Bingara.
It follows an issue over the weekend where mobile services were non existent and businesses were without internet, leaving them without EFTPOS facilities and missing out on sales on one the busiest weekends of the year.
Mayor Galvin says it is totally outrageous in this day and age to have this situation and quite embarrassing with so many visitors in town.
She says she’s contact New England MP Barnaby Joyce who responded that he was onto it as well as Northern Tablelands MP Brendan Moylan who made contact with Telstra straight away to advise of the problem.
Mayor Galvin says she hopes to meet with Ms Rowland when she’s in Canberra at the end of June for the ALGA Conference, if not before.
