YOUNG people aged 14-24 in the Inverell region are being invited to take part in a free hands-on car maintenance workshop aimed at building practical skills, confidence and essential car checks.
The workshop will be held on Monday 15 June from 4pm to 6pm at the Inverell Sports Complex and will provide participants with the opportunity to learn essential vehicle maintenance skills in a practical environment.
With many rural roads having limited or no mobile phone service, organisers say having a basic understanding of vehicle maintenance can be invaluable for young drivers.
Participants will learn practical skills including how to change a flat tyre, complete basic safety checks, identify key components under the bonnet and understand simple maintenance tasks that can help keep vehicles safe and roadworthy.
The free workshop will be delivered by Galmatic, an award-winning team with extensive experience teaching youth across the state. Lead mechanic Eleni will guide participants through demonstrations and practical activities using a supplied vehicle.
Organisers hope the workshop will empower young people with the confidence and knowledge to better manage unexpected situations on the road while encouraging safe vehicle practices.
“This workshop is about giving young people practical life skills that are especially important in rural areas,” said event coordinator, Christy Galbraith.
“Many young people are driving older second-hand cars, so knowing how to carry out simple checks or change a tyre can make a real difference when travelling long distances or through areas without phone reception.”
The event is free to attend thanks to funding from the NSW Government, however bookings are essential.
To register, participants are asked to email their name and age, contact number and email address to info@ladybugprojects.com.au.
