The Inverell Hawks have secured the Group 19 Rugby League Minor premiership after going on a try-scoring spree against the Warialda Wombats on Saturday.
A first half hattrick by Joven Moore and a double to Adam Petrus set up the win with the Hawks leading 48-0 at half time and when the game was called in the second half, the Hawks led 60-4.
Hawks 1st grade coach Jamie McCormack says it was a great win by the boys after a few setbacks over the past fortnight.
McCormack says from a club perspective, it’s exciting to finish minor premiers and secured a major semi-final at Varley Oval this Sunday that will feature all three grades.
The Uralla Tigers had a good warm up for this weekend major semi-final against the Hawks, hammering the Barraba Bulldogs 52-6 with coach Greg Ryan please with the victory.
He says they were able to fine tune some areas of their game and rest players to ensure they’re primed for this Sunday’s major semi adding they’re looking forward to the clash.
In the other game, Glen Innes registered a 56-16 win over the Moree Boomerangs earning them the minor semi final hosting rights this weekend against the Tingha Tigers.
In Reserve grade, Inverell thumped Warialda 60-0 with the mercy rule applied and Uralla had a convincing win over Barraba 28-12,
In ladies League Tag, the mercy rule was also applied after the Hawkettes registered a 62-0 victory, Barraba kept Uralla scoreless to win 22-0 while Glen Innes claimed the minor premiership with a 44-0 win over the Boomerangs.
