Inverell Shire Mayor Kate Dight attended her first Country Mayors Conference in Tamworth over the weekend and was one of the 46% of new Country Mayor welcomed into the Association from across the state
During the conference, the annual general meeting took place which elected Temora Mayor Rick Firman as the new Country Mayors Chair while Bega Shire mayor Russell Fitzpatrick was elected the new deputy chair.
Mayor Dight welcomed the opportunity to be part of the Country Mayors Association which she says is a great way to liase with members of state parliament on various issues affecting local communities.
She says the theme of the Conference was to address the skill shortage and labour force effecting the state at the moment.
Minister for Skills and Labour Force Steve Whan encouraged councils to recruit apprentice-based employees with Mayor Dight confirming Inverell Shire Council has applied to receive grant funding to fund 6 positions within Council
