Celebrating the Volunteers Who Keep Our Community Strong

by | May 21, 2026 | Community, Media Release

Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan has congratulated winners and nominees from the 2026 New England Regional Volunteer Awards.

The awards see volunteers from Armidale, Uralla, Walcha and surrounds nominated by their peers to recognise their contribution to the community.

The awards ceremony was held in the Armidale Regional Council chambers on Tuesday, 19 May.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community organisations, and these groups wouldn’t function without people giving up their time,” Mr Moylan said.

“People who volunteer within the community don’t do it for the accolades but to better the lives of everyone around them.

“To be put forward by their peers for recognition is a testament to the impact they have on the lives of others and everyone who was nominated at the 2026 New England Regional Volunteer Awards was deserving of their name being put forward.

“I would like to congratulate and thank each and every one of them for the time they put into enhancing our community.”

The award winners were:

  • New England Regional Volunteer of the Year – Armidale St Vincent de Paul secretary Nick Hanson
  • New England Youth Volunteer of the Year – Armidale Uralla Meals on Wheels volunteer Maielle Parsons
  • New England Regional Senior Volunteer of the Year (65 and over) – Nick Hanson
  • New England Regional Adult Volunteer of the Year – NSW RFS Dumaresq’s Sam Baker
  • New England Regional Volunteer Team – CWA of Armidale
