Shoppers are being warned of scams as one of the biggest sales events in Australia has commenced.
New research has revealed that most Australians plan to purchase gifts online this year leading into the Christmas period who have already taken advantage of Black Friday sales and will continue with Cyber Monday sales with massive discounts on offer.
However, alongside the convenience of online shopping comes the growing threat of scams with an alarming majority of Australians reporting they have been contacted by fraudsters, with risks ranging from “too good to be true” offers to fake websites, with the National Anti-Scam Centre flagging 3,000 fraudulent sites last year resulting in over $500,000 in reported losses.
