The community of Bingara are still awaiting news about a family who are on the cusp of deportation back to Papua New Guinea.
Petrus Atep and his family of 10 fled Papua New Guinea after receiving deaths threats from a rival tribe following an incident where a hire car belonging to Mr Atep’s hire car company was involved in an accident where a tribesman from the rival tribe was killed.
STA FM understands Immigration Minister Tony Burke has acknowledged New England MP Barnaby Joyce’s representations on the 12th and 29th of November and also acknowledged the family’s deadline of this Friday and has stated it is actively reviewing the matter.
It’s understood a Bridging Visa has been lodged with immigration which has given the family a brief reprieve from deportation.
