Inverell’s new Youth Think Tank has been launched, to empower young people to lead the planning and delivery of activities for young people aged 24 years and under. Four passionate youth have been selected to spearhead this initiative.
The selected youth are:
- Daniel Bernard
- Rohan Cowley
- Savannah Maybury
- Hollie Purvis
Think Tank members have hit the ground running and recently conducted grassroots research among their peers in Inverell and Ashford to learn about the activities young people in the region would most like to see. The results were clear: youth are eager for more engaging, free, diverse, and accessible opportunities in their communities.
Popular responses from young people included:
- Live music events featuring youth artists
- Low impact recreation
- Carp Muster
- Underwater hockey
- Interschool challenges
- Free trials for gyms and sports clubs
- University preparation workshops
The Youth Think Tank will now work to turn these ideas into reality and give young people a platform to participate in shaping their communities.
Youth Think Tank coordinator Christy Galbraith from Ladybug Projects says, “the four youth think tank members will take charge of planning and implementing the activities that respond to the needs of their community.”
“By enabling young people to deliver activities that matter to them, this initiative helps foster a sense of ownership, community, and belonging.”
The Think Tank is proudly funded by the NSW Government, which enables youth to lead and make a difference in their communities.
“We are excited to see these young leaders working to bring fresh and creative ideas to life. The feedback from schools in Inverell and Ashford shows there is a strong desire for more engaging opportunities, and the Youth Think Tank is the perfect platform for delivering these activities,” said Christy.
The youth-led initiatives will be rolled out in the coming months, with more details on upcoming events and opportunities to be shared through local channels.
