Inverell Shire Council have announced the footbridge behind the library is now open to the public.
The works commenced in May this year with the existing piers being raised and the deck installed to ensure members of the public are able to cross the bridge in the event of future flooding.
The original footbridge was built in the 1860’s with refurbishments in 1912 but Council believe the crossing had ceased the community’s needs and had to be replaced.
Council advises a temporary handrail has been installed and asked users to proceed with caution.
The new handrail and balustrade has been manufactured and is currently being galvanized and will be installed once the galvanization process has been completed.
