Fire and Rescue NSW has recognised Inverell fire captain Robbie Wighton for his exemplary leadership in supporting Mental Health and wellbeing.
Mr Wighton, along with Captain Dave Welsh from Gunnedah and Narrabri Firefighter Jason Anderson, were presented a Commissioners Safety Award this week at the Fire & Rescue NSW headquarters in Sydney for providing vital mental health education, guidance and support to all firefighters across all 21 stations in the region.
Over the past three years, Mr Wighton has visited every station in the region on at least three occasions, regularly attending drill nights, and station activities to strengthen professional relationships, promote psychological wellbeing and ensure firefighters understand how to access Fire and Rescue NSW support services.
He says it’s fantastic to receive the award but admits he does the job to keep his firefighting family safe and well during tough times.
