Inverell Shire Councillors will consider at today’s Council Meeting whether to adopt the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal’s recommended rate peg of 3.9% for the 2027/28 financial year.
The rate peg represents the maximum percentage amount by which a Council may increase its general rate income.
The rate peg methodology aims to balance the impacts on ratepayers, recognising the current cost of living pressures and the need for councils to provide services and cover increases in existing costs.
This year’s core rate peg, which is the rate increase before adjustments for the population growth factor, has included an adjustment for cybersecurity with IPART recognising that cybersecurity is a necessary and ongoing expense for Council as they work to protect their systems, data and service delivery.
