A bushfire on the Rifle Range Rd at Brodies Plains on Saturday afternoon continues to burn as firefights battle to control the blaze
The fire started on Friday afternoon and spread rapidly on Saturday with the strong winds enabling the fire to breach containment lines and get out of control.
Residents along Elsmore Road, between McLachlan’s Lane and Stannifer Road were advised by the NSW Rural Fire Service to prepare to evacuate as fire threatened a house and 6 sheds which were saved by crews from NSW Rural Fire Service and Inverell Fire and Rescue NSW.
It again flared yesterday with the alert raised to Watch & Act before being downgraded again yesterday afternoon with firefighters supported by waterbombing aircraft continuing to work to control the bush fire.
Smoke has again engulfed the town this morning after coming in thick yesterday morning before a wind change came in to clear the smoke.
Captain Phil Stewart from the Stannifer Rural Fire Brigade says it’s unknown how the fire began but they’re hoping for better weather condition today to fight the blaze.
