Young musicians are being encouraged to take centre stage when Battle on the Bank returns to Campbell Park on Friday, 25 September 2026.
Performer registrations are now open, with young singers, musicians and bands aged 12 to 24 invited to enter for the opportunity to perform live and compete for cash prizes. Registrations can be completed at www.ladybugprojects.com.au/battleonthebank.
Organised by the volunteer Youth Think Tank Team (Y3T) with the support of Ladybug Projects, Battle on the Bank is a free, youth-led live music event that provides young performers with the opportunity to showcase their talents, build confidence and perform in front of a live audience.
The event was born from a youth-led survey that asked young people across the Inverell Shire what they wanted to see more of in their community. One message stood out – young people wanted more opportunities for live music and performance.
In response, the inaugural Battle on the Bank was held in 2025 and featured emerging artist Kyla Belle alongside seven young performers. Audience favourite PJ took out first prize on the night, with Cooper Blair’s didgeridoo performance placing second and Natalie Tu finishing third.
Following the success of the inaugural event, this year’s Y3T committee has continued the legacy by planning the 2026 Battle on the Bank, ensuring local young people continue to have opportunities to showcase their talents and connect with their community through music.
Unlike many community events, Battle on the Bank is entirely youth-led, with the Y3T committee taking the lead in planning and delivering the event. Youth Think Tank Team member Sophie said “We’ve been involved in every part of organising the event – from planning and promoting it to organising food stalls, encouraging performers to register and helping create an event that young people can really be proud of.”
“Whether you’ve performed before or it’s your first time on stage, we encourage you to register”, Sophie said.
Ladybug Projects Executive Officer Christy Galbraith said “around 30 per cent of our community is made up of young people, so it’s important they have opportunities to contribute, lead and be celebrated. Events like Battle on the Bank shine a light on the incredible talent and creativity of our young people and share it with the wider community.”
Event organisers acknowledge the support of Sapphire Wind Farm, whose funding has helped make this year’s event possible.
The whole community is invited to come along, enjoy an evening of live entertainment, great food and outstanding local talent while supporting the next generation of musicians from across the Inverell Shire.
